Our Favorite Kevin Durant Sneakers of All Time
Happy birthday to 10x All-Star and 2x Finals MVP Kevin Durant. In honor of him turning 31, we take a look back at our favorite KD colorways and models of his signature sneaker.
10. KD 3 "EA Sports"
Nike and EA Sports teamed up to create a wild color way for the KD 3 in honor of Durant being named the cover athlete for their upcoming release EA Sports NBA Elite 11. The game was then scrapped and never released. The shoes however were released extremely limitedly in a Nike Store in Santa Monica. The shoe features a pixilated upper, EA Sports branding on the tongue and yellow controller buttons on the heel.
9. KD 4 "EYBL" Pack
The EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) is a league that brings together some of the best basketball players under 17. The KD was selected as one of the PE (player exclusive) shoes. 3 colors were dropped in grey, blue and red. The tongue featured the EYBL logo and was the shoe is finished off in a splatter effect type pattern.
8. KD 4 "Gold Medal"
In the 2012 Summer Olympics, KD played lights out. Setting U.S. records for most points (156) and most 3 pointers (34) while securing his first Gold Medal. To honor such a performance, Nike put out these metallic KD 4s. All over gold to symbolize the medal, with a red swoosh to represent the U.S, these KD with surely have you feeling patriotic.
7. KD 1 "Super Sonics" PE
Before the Thunder moved to Oklahoma City, they were the Seattle Super Sonics. Though these are listed as PEs (Player Exclusives), KD never wore these in a game. Instead Nike released these as Career Pack. Odd to see that done after seeing him only play one year, but they based the rest of the pack off of his middle school, high school, college and of course the Super Sonics.
6. KD 4 "Weatherman"
As a child, KD's dream job was being a weatherman. Thankfully for us, choose basketball instead. But, Nike wanted to share his love for the weather and make this weather map inspired sneaker. The outsole of the shoe features a thermo-map of his foot to tie in with the weather theme.
5. KD 4 "Galaxy"
For the 2012 NBA All Star Game in Orlando, Nike went with a galaxy theme for their "All Star" pack featuring the Kobe 7, Lebron 9, Foamposite 1, and of course the KD 4. The shoe features a NASA inspired logo on the tongue and a glow-in-the-dark outsole, making this shoe out of this world.
4. KD 4 "Aunt Pearl"
Sadly, Durant lost his beloved Aunt Pearl to breast cancer when he was 11. Durant is extremely active in the "Think Pink" campaign that aims at improving the lives of breast cancer patients. The shoe features the pink ribbon, a symbol for breast cancer, and several pearls on the backtab and tongue to honor his aunt Pearl. On the inside of the strap, an inscribed dedication is written for her.
3. KD 4 "Scoring Title"
In what many believe to be the career making shoe for KD, the "Scoring Title" KD 4s was dropped after KD's third consecutive scoring title. The tongue features "30.1, 27.7, 28" which were his points per game averages in those 3 seasons.
2. KD 4 "Nerf"
In one of the craziest collaborations Nike has ever done, the KD 4 gets a bright makeover by NERF. Using all the neon colors that NERF features on most of there sport products, this KD 4 is loud. It styles "NERF" on tongue and "KD35" on the other. The shoe also came in a special edition box complete with a NERF basketball hoop and NERF basketball.
1. KD 2 "Creamsicle"
The all orange KD 2 started the "creamsicle" craze. What made this shoe so crazy, is that the entire Thunder roster would wear these on national televised games. The "creamsicle" colorway has been featured on other KD models, but none have ever gone as crazy as these.
Happy birthday KD.
